Lemnis

A funder named in the MMI brief as having provided funding "in part" for the Measures, Metrics, and Indicators project. The only named funder of the MMI project itself.

Role in the project

The brief discloses Lemnis as a project funder at the bottom of the conclusion section:

"Funding for the 'Measures, Metrics, and Indicators (MMI) for the Third Horizon' Project was provided in part by Lemnis."

The brief does not detail Lemnis's broader portfolio or grantmaking strategy. The phrase "in part" implies additional funders that the document does not name.

A representative — Kathy Bryant — participated in the MMI design sprints and interviews, which is consistent with active rather than purely transactional funder involvement.

Why it matters

Three reasons Lemnis is worth tracking:

  1. It is the named funder behind a foundational source in this KB. Provenance matters for reading the brief — Lemnis's interests likely shaped what got prioritized.
  2. It's a small piece of evidence about which funders are committing capital to H3 measurement work. The brief's R&D area #4 (Align Funders and Innovators) and the proposed advance market commitment both assume funder coordination; identifying the actual funders willing to put capital here is foundational.
  3. The other funder voices in the participant roster — Gates, Margulf, Raikes, Schwab, CZI, Jasper Ridge — give a thicker map of the funder landscape, but Lemnis is the one with a disclosed direct grant.

Follow-ups

  • Ingest Lemnis directly — homepage, mission, published grantmaking strategy if available.
  • Clarify Lemnis's broader education portfolio and whether MMI is a one-off or part of a sustained H3 measurement strategy.
  • Identify the other (un-named) project funders.
  • Add Kathy Bryant as a person entity if a second source surfaces her position substantively.
