Edge Research

A market-research firm that conducts qualitative and quantitative studies on parent attitudes toward K–12 education. Edge conducted both of the most-cited recent qualitative studies on parent interpretation of achievement reports: the Smarter Balanced × National PTA 2022 focus groups and the HCM Strategists / Learning Heroes report-card redesign research.

Why this matters

Two of the most-cited recent qualitative findings about how parents read achievement reports come from the same research firm. That doesn't invalidate the findings — Edge is a respected outfit and the methodologies appear sound — but it means the available qualitative evidence base on parent comprehension is narrower than it might appear: it largely traces back to one provider's focus-group and interview methods.
